Second division football club 1. FC Nürnberg has returned to the road to success after two bitter bankruptcies.

The nine-time German champions defeated Jahn Regensburg 2-0 (1-0) and at least temporarily reduced the gap to a promotion place to five points.

After the defeats against Ingolstadt (0:5) and in Karlsruhe (1:4), Pascal Köpke (35th minute) and Taylan Duman (55th) scored the goals for the Franconians.

For Regensburg it was the fourth defeat in a row.

The hosts, who had to do without Johannes Geis (Corona) at short notice, tried to control the game.

However, the Regensburg team had their first big chance.

David Otto (19th) failed after a corner from close range by FCN goalkeeper Christian Mathenia.

Nuremberg always combined quickly to the front, but the last pass often didn't arrive at first.

The lead through Köpke's first goal of the season was therefore not undeserved.

Mats Möller Daehli crossed with precision.

The guests were only briefly shocked and had a great opportunity to equalize two minutes before the break.

But Max Besuschkow shot over the goal.

Despite the lead, the people of Nuremberg initially pushed forward after the change in front of 23,042 spectators.

Duman increased after preparatory work by Lukas Schleimer.

Seven minutes later, Duman, who came from Dortmund, missed the final decision with a shot across the crossbar.
