The ISU tells the news agency AFP that they do not normally tell about the proposals to the congress, but that "the current situation in the Olympics requires it".

The age limit in figure skating has been debated since the 15-year-old super talent Kamila Valieva tested positive for a banned heart medicine but has since been allowed to compete in the Olympics due to her young age.

Critics said that if you compete as a senior, you should also be treated as an adult based on the anti-doping regulations.

However, the ISU's proposal to raise the age limit was mainly made to protect young figure skaters from being forced to quit even before they become adults, due to severe injuries and eating disorders due to excessive strain on the body at a young age.

The Swedish Confederation supports the proposal

The Russian gold and silver medalists in the Olympics, Anna Sjtjerbakova and Alexandra Trusova, are only 17 years old and have been world stars since their early teens.

Bronze medalist Kaori Sakamoto, Japan, is 21 years old.

The Swedish Figure Skating Federation supports the proposal to raise the age limit, the union leader Linda Neffler has told TT, but has not decided how they will vote at the congress in June.

"We have not taken a position on this yet as we have not seen the final bills," Neffler said
