• The trip of Losc supporters to London on February 22 for the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League between Chelsea and Lille is not easy.

  • Between Covid and Brexit, administrative and health formalities are more complex than before.

  • As a result, northern supporters will be fewer than expected to support their team.

In the world before, the short trip between Lille and London (1h30 by Eurostar) would not have been a problem for Lille supporters wishing to attend the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League between Chelsea and Losc on February 22.

Trains, boats, car… access to the English capital is normally very easy from the North of France.

But between Covid-19 and Brexit, a lot has changed in three years, the date of the last clash between the two teams.

The trip between the two countries has turned into a headache because of administrative and health constraints.

“There are two problems that are holding back the supporters and that will mean that instead of being 2,500, we will be between 1,000 and 1,500.

The first problem is the passport.

Not all supporters have one and it costs between 80 and 90 euros.

The second problem is the health crisis with the vaccination pass and the tests that follow one another.

It is an additional cost to the price of tickets which is already extremely high [70 euros]”, confides François Stock, member of the Dogues du Net.

Even if since February 4, fully vaccinated people are no longer subject to a PCR test on site and before departure, they must still complete the Passenger Locator Form to certify that they have a complete vaccination schedule (two doses, no need booster dose).

A test before and after arrival in England without a complete vaccination schedule

Otherwise, the step of the cotton swab in the nose remains mandatory two days before entering English territory and two days after arrival.

What demotivate some supporters.

“Usually we always organize a bus with our section and the Tourcoing Nord Section but this time with the sanitary conditions, we did not want to take the risk of organizing one with the hazard represented by the PCR tests”, continues François Stock.

As a result, only one bus will take the Eurostar to Les Dogues du Net.

Despite these difficult conditions, the mutual aid between troops of supporters is there.

“The vast majority do not want or cannot go there because of administrative and health constraints.

Our section has decided to direct people wishing to go there to friends from other sections,” says the president of the Dogues Pompons, Damien Fevrier.

A complete vaccination pass and a valid passport.

Such is the price to pay to sit on the blue seats of Chelsea.

The stand reserved for visitors to Stamford Bridge is therefore likely to be a little bare on February 22.

It remains to be hoped that the red and white supporters will make themselves heard and recite their most beautiful songs in front of the approximately 40,000 Blues fans.

The exploit is at this price.
