In Pyeongchang 2018, the United States managed to win Olympic gold after a 3-2 victory against Canada.

Today, the Canadians got their revenge and with the same numbers were able to take home the big ice hockey nation's fifth Olympic gold on the women's side.

But it was the United States that had the chance to take the lead early.

Hannah Brandt was given a chance to change things around.

Instead, Canada was able to crack the goal zero through Natalie Spooner, but the United States challenged the goal and it was ruled out for offside.

Then Sarah Nurse and Marie-Philip Poulin took over the show for Canada.

Nurse was able to control 1-0 shortly after and this time it was approved.

Beat records and write history

Before the break, Poulin had also received the puck with a wrist shot from outside.

With that, she became historic as the first and only player to score in four Olympic finals, all of which she played in.

In the second period, Poulin then extended to 3-0 from a narrow angle.

She was also assisted by Sarah Nurse, who scored her 18th point for the tournament, which is a new record in the Olympic context.

Canada looked to be heading for an easy victory.

The United States keyed in

But US star Hilary Knight made it 3-1 with a few minutes left in the middle and made sure the Americans got closer.

And it got sweaty.

With 12 seconds left in the game, Amanda Kessel was able to send in 3-2 in a messy situation in front of goal and everything had to go the US way to succeed to equalize.

However, Canada managed to hold off and secure the fifth Olympic gold out of seven possible in the women's ice hockey.
