Annika Sörenstam looks to make a comeback in a major context.

The 51-year-old Swedish star, with ten major victories, is registered for the US Open at Pine Needles, North Carolina, on June 2-5.

"I look forward to the opportunity to play a US Open again, especially since it will be decided at Pine Needles," Sörenstam said in a press release, Golf Digest reports.

Sörenstam won the US Open three times, including at the Pine Needles in 1996.

"I never thought I would play another one, but everything simply fell into place."

Annika Sörenstam retired professionally in 2008, after, among other things, 72 victories on the American LPGA Tour.

But last year she was back in the LPGA competition at her home course Lake Nona in Florida - where Sörenstam and his family live next door to the 16th hole.

She managed the "cut" and finished in 74th place.

Last year, the Swede participated in the ladies' veteran competition US Senior Open - a competition she won.

That victory gave Sörenstam a place in this year's US Open - and now she looks to take on the challenge.
