Manchester City players experienced difficult moments on the return trip from Portugal, after they beat Sporting Lisbon by five in the first leg of the Champions League final.

The pilot of the plane that carried the team yesterday evening was unable to land at Manchester Airport due to the strong winds that blew over the area with Storm Didley.

After 3 unsuccessful attempts to approach Manchester Airport, the pilot was forced to divert the flight, and landed safely at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

"We confirm that the plane carrying the first team returning from Lisbon has landed safely in the city of Liverpool, after it was forced to change its course from Manchester due to strong winds," the club wrote on its Twitter account.

The “Liverpool Airport” account welcomed the club’s plane, without missing the opportunity to send a message to the Premier League leaders.

"We are pleased to welcome Manchester City to the football capital of England," the account wrote, referring to Liverpool's superiority over the team coached by Pep Guardiola.
