Linda Sembrant injured her right cruciate ligament and meniscus during a training session with Juventus on 14 May.

The Swedish national team defender was forced to undergo surgery, which among other things meant that she missed the Olympics in Tokyo this summer.

But now she's back.

The 34-year-old made a comeback for Juventus earlier in February and now she is back in the national team that is in place for the Algarve Cup.

- I'm incredibly happy to be here.

When I think back on the trip, I am incredibly proud to be here, says Sembrant.

"Emotional roller coaster"

It has been a challenge for Sembrant, who was also cruciate ligament injured earlier in his career, to come back.

Both physically and mentally.

- It has been a roller coaster emotionally.

It was very tough in the beginning.

The injury happened so close to the Olympics, so it was tough.

But when I accepted the situation and when the operation was done, I just ran with all the rehab, she says.

How did you react when you received the message?

- I knew immediately on the pitch that it had gone to the forest.

So when the doctors then confirmed it, I already knew.

It was an episode that was one of the most painful in my career.

"Worth all the effort"

The Algarve Cup is an important preparation for this summer's European Football Championship.

For his part, Sembrant focuses on increasing training and getting back to the max.

- It is a long journey and a long rehab where you really need to take care of your knee every day so that you can walk and run again.

It is a very, very hard toil.

Everyone who has done so knows what the job is behind it.

But if you want to go back and play, it's worth all the effort once you get to feel the ball and go out and play again.

Sweden meets Denmark on Friday in the Algarve Cup starting at 18.00.

You can watch the match on SVT2 / Play.
