Ukrainian cross-country skier Walentyna Kaminska tested positive for doping in the A sample at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

This was announced by the International Test Agency ITA, commissioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), on Wednesday.

The banned substances mesterolone, methylhexaneamine and heptaminol were detected in the doping test of the 34-year-old.

The athlete was informed about the case and suspended until clarification.

She is not allowed to take part in competitions, training or support measures or other activities during the Winter Games, the statement said.

According to the ITA, Kaminska has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional ban before the Court of Arbitration of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport and to request an analysis of the B sample.

If she refrains from doing so, she is considered a doping offender and must expect a ban.

The same applies if the B sample is positive again.

The 34-year-old Kaminska had already taken part in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang.

At the competitions in Zhangjiakou, China, she finished 79th over ten kilometers in the classic style and 70th in the sprint.

With the season she had become 18th.

The Ukrainian provided the second positive doping test during the games in the Chinese capital.

According to the ITA, a banned steroid had previously been detected in the A sample of the Iranian skier Hossein Saveh Shemshaki.

The doping affair involving the Russian figure skater Kamila Valiewa also caused a stir at the Winter Games.

However, the women's gold favorite had already tested positive for a banned heart drug in December.

However, your doping offense only became known during the Olympics in Beijing.
