Zero corona cases in the bubble: For the first time on Monday, the organizers of the Winter Games in Beijing reported no positive test in the closed Olympic system.

At the start of the tenth decision day, the German bobsledders and the Nordic combined athlete Terence Weber have to cope with disappointments.

Without a medal:

The German winning streak in the Olympic ice track in Yanqing has broken.

Laura Nolte from Winterberg only managed fourth place in the monobob on Monday.

European Champion Mariama Jamanka from Oberhof finished 13th in the new competition. Previously, both the German lugers and the skeleton pilots had won all their competitions and, in addition to six gold medals, three silver medals.

The first monobob Olympic champion is world champion Kaillie Humphries from the USA, who finished 1.54 seconds ahead of her teammate Elana Meyers Taylor.

The Canadian Christine de Bruin, who was 0.30 seconds faster than Nolte, secured bronze.

Gold dance:

The ice dancers Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron from France have reached the goal of their dreams with the Olympic victory in Beijing.

With 226.98 points, the four-time world champions beat the Russian European champions Viktoria Sinizina/Nikita Kazalapow (220.51) to silver in the freestyle on Monday.

The Americans Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue came third with 218.02 points.

Katharina Müller and Tim Dieck (Berlin/Dortmund) had bad luck in their Olympic debut.

The two-time German champions had to go onto the ice with the ungrateful start number one in the rhythmic dances on Saturday and missed the entry into the freestyle of the 20 best couples with the 21st place.

Substitute:

The Nordic combined Terence Weber can no longer compete in these Olympic Winter Games after his corona infection and will be replaced by Manuel Faißt.

The 25-year-old Weber, like record world champion Eric Frenzel, has to remain in quarantine.

"Now they are still not out, so we made the decision to take Terence Weber out and let Manuel Faißt start in his place," said national coach Hermann Weinbuch on Monday.

For Frenzel there is still a chance of an Olympic start.

There are still two decisions to be made in the combination at the Winter Games this week.

This Tuesday, the athletes will first jump off the large hill.

The subsequent running race over ten kilometers will take place at 12.00 p.m. (ZDF and Eurosport).

The team competition follows on Thursday.

Zero Covid:

For the first time, no new corona infections occurred in the closed Olympic bubble.

As the organizers announced on Monday, all 69,872 tests carried out the day before were negative.

Three other infections were discovered in those arriving at Beijing Airport.

The trend of new infections has been pointing downwards for days.

While more than 30 infections per day were temporarily registered after the start of the recording on January 23, the number of new cases was recently always in the single digits.

A total of 432 infections have been detected since the start of travel to the Winter Games.

TV criticism:

The picture selection of the Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS) for the relay silver of the German cross-country skiers caused annoyance among TV viewers and broadcasters.

"The finish was cut by the director," said ARD team boss Christoph Netzel of the German Press Agency.

"He goes into a three-on-four duel instead of showing the successful silver finish of the German season - that was extremely unfortunate."

“In the live situation we had to live with the situation.

In retrospect, we were able to submit the necessary images later.”
