Swedish Mattias Rönngren did not finish in today's giant slalom, which Marco Odermatt won.

Benjamin Alexander, on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The 38-year-old was born in the UK, with a British mother and Jamaican father, and finished 46th in the difficult giant slalom.

He was one minute and nine seconds behind Odermatt and 32 seconds slower than the second to last.

"Looked so slow compared to the others"

But today's competition made Alexander historic as the first Jamaican to participate in an alpine competition at an Olympics.

In total, he is only the 15th person to represent the country in a winter Olympics ever.

In the finish, the 38-year-old was lyrical.

As recently as 2015, he went slalom for the first time in his life.

- I looked so slow compared to the other riders.

50 percent of the field did not take part in the goal, it was terrible conditions today.

But sitting here without broken legs makes me smile from ear to ear.

For me, this was never about winning.

But I want people to understand that you do not have to have grown up in wealth, be of a certain ethnicity or be born near the mountains.

I have none of these three things.

I want to show that anything is possible.

I fell 26 times on a children's slope the first time I went, he says in Eurosport.

Benjamin Alexander has had an international DJ career and previously played on a daily basis in the Canadian mountains.

Nowadays he is retired in his profession.
