  • Hybrids Kia XCeed and Ceed Tourer PHEV: for less than 30,000 euros

the OCU released a study that placed the Hyundai Ioniq (from 34,210 euros) and Peugeot e-2008 (from 32,650 euros) models as electric cars below 35,000 euros.

Now, the entity addresses the world of plug-in hybrid cars (PHEV or plug-in) and concludes that the ones that stand out the most, always below that price threshold, are now the Toyota Prius Plug-in that is available in Spain from 33,900 euros, and the Kia Ceed Tourer PHEV, for sale from 29,180 euros.

Although the organization analyzed a total of 36 models, with rates ranging from 28,000 to 118,000 euros.

The OCU has highlighted these two models for their price, for their low consumption and for their ample interior space.

In addition, both can be cheaper by up to 5,000 euros more by taking advantage of the aid of the Moves III Plan.

Amortized from 140,000 km

"Their extra cost compared to a traditional car is not compensated for up to 140,000 kilometers traveled,

but they pollute much less when they are used in electric mode, so they have priority to access and park in low-emission zones."

Another important advantage stands out compared to pure electric: its less dependence on an electrical recharging infrastructure that is still little developed in Spain.

Of the Toyota Prius Plug-in, the OCU highlights its low consumption

"Compared to an electric one, plug-in hybrids end up being more expensive,

but they do not need to be recharged on trips or long journeys. It is also not necessary to have a high-capacity plug in the house,

since its battery recharges in less than five hours with a normal power outlet", explains the OCU.

The Toyota shines for its consumption

This saloon with 122 CV of power and 40 kilometers of electric autonomy, has a price of 28,900 euros (with the aid of the Moves III Plan) and

a consumption (real, not the homologated one) especially low: 4.7 euros/100 km, according to the OCU's own calculations,

thanks to the fact that it works 70% of the time in electric mode (the first 100 km after each recharge and in urban use).

Toyota Prius Plug-in Interior

It also highlights that the

front seats "are very spacious",

although it mentions two important flaws: that

"rear visibility can be improved"

(the striking double-bubble rear window and the high rear spoiler reduce the field of vision of the interior rearview mirror) and the low capacity of the trunk (354 liters, not 200 as the report erroneously points out).

Kia Ceed Tourer 1.6 PHEV

The cheapest is the Kia Ceed Tourer PHEV

The family body of the plug-in hybrid Ceed has 141 CV of power, 45 km of electric autonomy and costs

only 24,180 euros with public aid.

Consumption is somewhat higher (5.4 euros/100 km),

but it offers a good interior space and a little more load with 395 liters of trunk.

Against him stands out "the noise when driving at high speed with the gasoline engine."

Leader in 2021, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid

Despite all the advantages pointed out by the OCU (price, mainly), the Toyota Prius and the Kia Ceed Tourer are not the best-selling models in their category in Spain Spain.

In fact, the leadership belongs to the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid, which in 2021 shipped 4,447 units,

far behind the second and with an equally affordable price.

The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid was the best-selling PHEV in 2021

The French SUV, which is available in two versions of 225 or 300 hp, can be purchased from 29,800 euros (with discounts and aid from the Moves III Plan)

and offers a range of up to 59 kilometers in zero emission mode.

In addition, being a compact SUV it also offers ample interior space and a 395-litre trunk.

The Kia Xceed PHEV was the second best-selling car with this technology

Second was the Kia Xceed

The second best-selling plug-in hybrid in 2021 was the Kia XCeed PHEV,

(1,855 units delivered).

It is a crossover, available from 26,200 euros, with 48 kilometers of electric autonomy and has a 291-liter trunk due to its rear coupé design.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge PHEV, the best-selling premium plug-in hybrid

Another very interesting model, although the price is not as affordable as the previous ones, is the Volvo XC40 Recharge PHEV, the best-selling premium plug-in hybrid in Spain

(1,595 units in 2021).

The Swedish compact SUV is available with two plug-in hybrid variants called T4 and T5, with 211 and 262 hp respectively, both with front-wheel drive and 45 kilometers of electric range.

It is sold from 41,300 euros
