It will be Iversen's first appearance in the Beijing Games and the choice to choose him arouses criticism in Norway.

Erik Valnes had better results than Iversen throughout the season, says NRK's expert Fredrik Aukland.
Valnes was 15th in the 15 km classic on Friday and went to the semifinals in the sprint on Tuesday.

Aukland points out that Norway did the same at the Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018 when Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Didrik Tönseth got a place without having competed before in the championship.
Even though Norway won both relays, it was not thanks to Jacobsen's and Tönseth's efforts.
