At the skiathlon, Frida Karlsson finished fifth and Ebba Andersson tenth.

In 10 km Andersson came sixth and Karlsson twelfth.

The results do not reflect the high expectations of the Swedish cross-country skiers.

And Therese Johaug, who won both competitions, is surprised by the Swedish results.

- Frida is better than what she has shown now.

She was in great shape before Christmas.

We saw that, and it would be exciting to see if she managed to keep that shape.

But now we have seen that she did not make it, Johaug says to VG.

"Thought Frida would be stronger"

Karlsson and Johaug went evenly against each other in the World Cup.

They won two competitions each before heading to the Olympics in Beijing.

Once there, Johaug has shown that old is the oldest.

She is also skeptical about how the Swedish 22-year-old set up the season.

- I think the shape should not be so good before Christmas.

I have prioritized a lot of training at height and not so much speed.

Frida has been more at home and maybe trained more speed.

I thought Frida would be stronger here than she has shown so far, says Johaug.

Karlsson rode the Tour de Ski on weekdays - a competition that Johaug chose to stand over.

The tour did not end well for Karlsson who broke and went home after the mishap in the sprint competition.
