The sport has been part of the Olympics since 1924.

The season only premiered in 1988, since 2002 there have been three decisions.

How do Nordic Combined competitions work?

At the Olympics, there are two individual competitions that differ only slightly.

First, the jump is from the normal hill.

Each participant has one attempt.

The distance is converted into points, which in turn are converted into seconds.

The best jumper is allowed to start first on the subsequent cross-country skiing over ten kilometers.

In the other competition, there is a jump from the large hill, followed by a run over ten kilometers.

Up to 1.2 points are counted per meter of jump distance on the large hill and two points on the normal hill.

One point difference corresponds to four seconds between the starters.

In team jumping, a team consists of four athletes who all make a jump.

The time interval is calculated from this.

This is followed by a relay with four runners over five kilometers each.

Which German athletes are there?

At the Olympics in Beijing there are places for 55 athletes.

Only men take part.

Five athletes were nominated for Germany on January 19: Erik Frenzel (SSV Geyer), Vinzenz Geiger (SC Oberstdorf), Johannes Rydzek (SC Oberstdorf), Julian Schmid (SC Oberstdorf), Terence Weber (SSV Geyer).

Who are the Olympic favorites in Nordic Combined?

Jarl Magnus Riiber (Norway) and Johannes Lamparter (Austria) should win individual gold.

Directly behind comes the broad-based German team.

There is a German medal in all three decisions, especially through Vinzenz Geiger.

But Johannes Rydzek and Eric Frenzel are also good for precious metal, the relay anyway.

In 2018 in Pyeongchang, all three gold medals went to Germany.

Frenzel and Rydzek each won individually and alongside Fabian Rießle and Geiger also in the team.

Rydzek, Rießle and Frenzel even secured an all-German podium on the big Bakken.

Where are the Nordic Combined competitions held?

The Nordic Combined at the 2022 Olympics will take place in Zhangjiakou.

There is the new ski and biathlon center Kuyangshu.

There is a biathlon and a cross-country stadium with around 6,000 seats as well as a large and normal hill for ski jumping with 10,000 seats.

The design of the ski jump resembles a traditional Ruyi sceptre, a Chinese talisman.

At the Beijing Winter Games, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, biathlon and ski jumping competitions are held here.

Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province is around 180 kilometers northwest of Beijing and has long been a center for ski tourists.

The National Nordic Ski Center is to be converted into a park and outdoor ice center after the Olympics.

Among other things, camping should be possible there.
