After giving up his Korean citizenship and becoming a naturalized Russian citizen, coach Victor Ahn (Ahn Hyun-soo), who participated in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics as a technical coach for the Chinese short track team, was caught stroking the head of the Korean national team and encouraging them, causing controversy.

On the 7th, SBS broadcast camera filmed all athletes warming up during the men's 1,000m quarterfinals held at the Beijing Capital Indoor Stadium, the Chinese national team coach Victor Ahn was captured.

In the video, coach Ahn was stroking the head of the men's short track national team in Korea while having a conversation while wearing a red mask in a team uniform engraved with the Chinese flag.

Coach Ahn is from the Korea National Sports University, along with Hwang Dae-heon, Park Jang-hyuk, and Lee Jun-seo, the men's short track national team.

This video became a hot topic online as the controversy over China's bias judgment grew stronger immediately after the match.

Some domestic netizens expressed their displeasure, saying, "Why do coaches from other countries want to be treated as seniors by Korean players?", while others say, "There is no need to attach too much meaning to greetings between seniors and juniors." A debate ensued.

In the midst of this, Meng Wang, a former Chinese short track speed skater who is working as a commentator for Chinese media at the Olympics, rebelled, saying, "Korea has no right to criticize."

According to the local media, Wang Meng appeared on the Chinese internet video platform Soho Hanwi (搜狐英娛) yesterday (the 8th) and said, "I brought him (Victor An) from Russia, not from Korea."

Meng Wang said, "I have announced my retirement from Russia and brought him here who wants to have a stage for him. At that time, no one offered him a leadership position. Who offered him (coach position)? It's China." I also spoke.

Wang Meng, who is known to have served as the general manager of the Chinese short track national team, is known to have been friends with Ahn for over 20 years since 2002, when he was a player.

In 2018, Meng Wang offered Ahn the position of technical coach, which is the head coach of the Chinese team, so it is said that Ahn joined the Chinese team in 2019.
