This morning as I lay in bed I heard this voice.

"Good morning, good morning!" I jumped out of bed, yanked open the door and hung out the sign: Do not disturb.

I heard that voice a few days ago.

"Good morning, can I come in?" I called out "No" three times from the bed.

The door opened, I ran to the door.

I looked at two spray bottles, the disinfection and cleaning service.

A woman in a white suit, mask and face shield held her in her hands.

I said "Hello", not just - and closed the door.

A few minutes later the door opened again.

I was starting to get so confused that I accidentally spoke in German and thought I had spoken English: "Could you please come later?" I had probably arrived at the level of my grandfather, who spoke Low German to people who spoke to him in English talked.

The woman held her phone in front of my face.

I thought I should read what's on the screen.

I said, now back in English: Sorry, I can't read that.

Then the phone came closer to my mouth.

I understood: please talk in.

No gesture from the woman, no pointing, I was confused.

I couldn't read anything on her face.

So now in English: Can you come later, please?

It took a few minutes, then the software spat out the whole thing in Chinese.

The woman formed a circle with her thumb and forefinger: C'est bon!

A sign that works.
