The Syrian Basketball Federation reveals the secrets of withdrawing from the Arab Championship

The head of the Syrian Basketball Federation, Tariq Qutrash, revealed the reasons that prompted the Syrian team to withdraw from the Arab Championship, hours after the draw for the tournament hosted by Dubai from the 8th to the 16th of this month.

He said that these are special reasons, as some important players could not join, most notably the naturalized Syrian David Hermes and his colleague Kamal Jumblatt.

Qutrash confirmed to the Syrian "Bossala" website, that the team is dedicated to preparing for the second window of the Asian qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup, in which it will meet the Iranian and Bahraini teams on the 24th and 27th of this month.

In his speech, he denied that the withdrawal was the result of pressure from the Executive Office of the General Sports Federation, on the pretext that the Syrian team had suffered severe losses during its matches in Dubai.

The Syrian team occupies the last place with its Bahraini counterpart in the fourth group of the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup 2023, with two points, in a group led by Iran and Kazakhstan with four points, after the “Nour Qasioun” suffered a loss last November in the two matches of Kazakhstan, in the first leg. 74-84", and "71-81", offset by Bahrain's defeat by Iran in the back and forth with results of "66-82" and "64-100", respectively.
