The CAS court lifts the ban on former CAF president Issa Hayatou

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced the lifting of the ban imposed on Issa Hayatou, the former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In August, the International Football Association (FIFA) imposed a ban on Hayatou for a year from any activity related to football, accusing him of being responsible for violating the rules related to the promotion of media and marketing rights for competitions organized by CAF between 2014 and 2017.

The Judicial Chamber of the FIFA Independent Ethics Committee had also fined Hayatou, 75, 30,000 Swiss francs ($33,170).

The Cass Court stated in a statement issued today that it upheld Hayatou's appeal, adding that "the contested decision has been cancelled, and no penalty will be imposed on Issa Hayatou." FIFA has it, and therefore it does not require the imposition of sanctions by FIFA on Hayatou.
