During the winter break, the Belgian Philippe Clément, from Club Brugge, replaced Niko Kovac on the AS Monaco bench after two years of good and loyal service.

With him, the Monegasque club had managed to finish in third place in Ligue 1 last season, but remained in a disappointing 7th position at the end of December.

The decision to sack the Croatian coach leaves Prince Albert doubtful: "Normally, we take stock at the end of the season and not in the middle. I would surely have left Niko Kovac for a few more months and probably until the end of the season. end of the season."

However, the sovereign explains at the microphone of Europe 1 that he was shown "by several arguments that it was time to change (coach) because we were not in the objectives that we had set at the start of the season.

The future may prove the Monegasque sovereign right, and for the moment, Philippe Clément's record remains mixed.

The club from the principality is in 8th place in the French championship at the start of February.

Nevertheless, the current goes well between the sovereign and the Belgian coach.
