Stephan Mayer resigned on Tuesday from the position of Vice-President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), to which he was elected by the General Assembly in December.

He never did it.

The CSU MP Mayer, who was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior in the past legislative period and was responsible, among other things, for the federal promotion of top-class sport, confirmed this to the FAZ

"After the left-liberal federal government imposed a waiting period of twelve months on me for the office of DOSB Vice President with its decision of January 5, 2022, I don't want a deadlock for the DOSB, but a clear and consistent solution," he said. "This does not change the fact that on the one hand I consider the decision of the federal government to be inappropriate, exaggerated and disproportionate and on the other hand I would have liked to have played a key role in shaping the framework conditions for the millions of athletes and those who work full-time and on a voluntary basis in sport. "

The DOSB had said last week that it was up to Mayer to decide whether to resign or leave his post until the end of the waiting period.

Thomas Weikert's presidency was only elected until December 2022 due to the early end of his predecessor Alfons Hörmann's term of office;

The end of the mandate and waiting period would be within a few weeks for Mayer.

Mayer has represented the Altötting constituency in the Bundestag for twenty years, always directly elected.

He is sports policy spokesman for the CDU and CSU parliamentary group.
