Newcastle are close to signing Brazilian Guimaraes for 40 million euros

A source close to the negotiations told Reuters today that Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will move to Newcastle United for 40 million euros, although his club Olympique Lyonnais denied reaching any agreement.

Reuters has learned that the 24-year-old will undergo a medical examination at the weekend in Brazil, as he prepares to participate with his country in the international period.

Newcastle agreed to all Lyon's requests and Guimaraes agreed on personal terms with the struggling club in the Premier League.

Earlier today, the French club denied press speculations about the completion of the deal, in a statement.

Guimarães, who won Tokyo Olympic gold with Brazil last year, joined Lyon from Atletico Paranaense in January 2020. Fighting to avoid relegation, Newcastle have already signed striker Chris Wood and right-back Kieran Trippier in the transfer window this month.
