American tennis player Madison Keys has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time since 2015.

The 26-year-old clearly won 6: 3, 6: 2 in the quarterfinals in Melbourne against the Czech French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova.

In the semifinals on Thursday, the unseeded Keys will play against the world number one Ashleigh Barty from Australia or her compatriot Jessica Pegula.

Seven years ago, Keys made it into the semifinals of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season for the only time, but then lost to American tennis star Serena Williams.

Her best Grand Slam result so far came in 2017 when she reached the final of the US Open against her compatriot Sloane Stephens.

Krejcikova stormed to the title at the French Open 2021 out of nowhere and triumphed in singles and doubles in Paris.

In the first lap in Melbourne, the 26-year-old dispatched Andrea Petkovic from Darmstadt.

But in the quarter-finals she couldn't put up enough resistance: Krejcikova, fourth in the world rankings, looked exhausted at temperatures of around 30 degrees.

When the score was 2-5 in the first set, she had herself examined and her blood pressure measured.

Keys underlined her serve strength with eleven aces and convinced with her powerful game.

All German participants in the singles have already been eliminated.

The women's trio with Petkovic, Angelique Kerber and Tatjana Maria was over in the first round.

The greatest German hopeful Alexander Zverev missed the decisive rounds with a defeat in the round of 16.
