The All Japan Table Tennis Championships have begun, and the Tokyo Olympic medalists and others will compete for the best in Japan in seven events, including the doubles event, which will be held for the first time in two years.

The opening ceremony of the All Japan Table Tennis Championships was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, where the Tokyo Olympics were held.

Last year, only singles were held as a countermeasure against infection with the new coronavirus, but doubles will be held for the first time in two years.

On the 24th of the first day, the first round of mixed doubles was held.

The players wore masks until just before the match, and the staff disinfected the table tennis table between matches, so that the match proceeded while taking measures against infection.

The tournament will be held until the 30th of this month, and a pair of Tomokazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata, who won the silver medal at the World Championships in November last year, will participate in the second round of mixed doubles on the 25th.
