Figures that SVT Sport has produced together with SMHI show that nine of the ten European winter resorts we have looked at are heading towards a month shorter winter before this century is over.

Among the factors that are included in the review are the number of days per year with snow on the ground and the number of days per year where the temperature goes below zero degrees.

The forecast is based on global warming continuing in the same way as today, ie by three degrees until the end of the century.

Sebastian Samuelsson is worried, but not surprised, about the numbers.

- It is a very sad development and I think we are all well aware of it.

We should all do everything we can to stop that development.

If I check when I compete in the World Cup, I would say that I compete more often on artificial snow than regular snow.

It is clear that this is a big problem.

"Think about which trips are important"

The biathlon star sees that there are things that the individual athletes and sports federations can do to improve the situation.

- Maybe we should think about which trips are important to make and not.

Do we have to go on a bicycle camp to Crete in May or can we stay home?

Do we have to be in three or four places every month during the World Cup season or can we do as we actually did during the corona year and compress the travel for the sake of the environment?

These are things that I think you have to think about, says Samuelsson.
