The return of Al Hilal goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais to the Saudi squad

Mohammed Al Owais, Al Hilal goalkeeper, will return to the Saudi national team after a two-game absence due to injury, in a squad of 26 players called up by French coach Herve Renard today, Tuesday, to face Oman and Japan in the second group of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Al Owais missed two matches against Australia and Vietnam due to a knee injury he sustained during a match against China.

Al-Owais signed earlier this month a three-year contract with Al-Hilal after the end of his contract with his rival Al-Ahly.

Al-Owais, 30, was part of the Saudi squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and moved to Al-Ahly in 2017 from Al-Shabab.

Saudi Arabia will play Oman on January 27 in Riyadh before visiting Japan on February 1.

Saudi Arabia leads Group B with 16 points from six matches, four points behind second Japan, while Australia occupies third place with 11 points.

The first two teams from the first and second groups will qualify for the finals in Qatar, while the two third-placed teams will meet in an Asian playoff to determine the team that will compete in the international playoffs.
