The death of the legend of Real Madrid, crowned with six titles in the Champions League

Real Madrid announced the death of its legend between 1953 and 1971, Paco Gento, the only player in history to win six titles in the European Cup for Champions Clubs (currently the Champions League), at the age of 88.

In 18 seasons with Real Madrid, Francisco "Paco" Gento scored 182 goals in 601 matches, and built a rich record of titles, including 6 European Cups, 12 La Liga titles and two King's Cup titles.

Before his death, he was honorary president of the Royal Club.

The lively and quick left winger formed a fiery attack alongside Alfredo Di Stefano, Hector Real, Ferenc Puskas and Raymond Kopa (from 1956 to 1959), and lifted five consecutive cups in the Champions League with the top three between 1956 and 1960.

He crowned a sixth title six years later, specifically in 1966 along with other legends such as Manu Sanches or Perry.

In total, Paco Gento played 8 finals in the first continental competition, including two he lost in 1962 against Benfica and in 1964 against Inter Milan.

Another record he shares with AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini.

"The character of Paco Gento faithfully represents all the values of Real Madrid, he has been and will be a reference for 'Madrid' and the world of sport. Real Madrid fans and football fans will remember him as one of the greatest legends of our sport," Real Madrid wrote in a statement.

His record of titles raised him to the first place among the most successful players in the history of Real Madrid, with 23 titles.

It took nearly half a century before the Brazilian left international defender Marcelo joined him on Sunday after the Royal Club was crowned with the local Super Cup title in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

This unique record also earned him the appointment as honorary president of Real Madrid in 2016, succeeding Di Stefano, who died in 2014.

Paco Gento also played for the Spain national team 43 times, during which he scored five goals.

He participated in the 1964 European Nations Cup qualifiers, but was only partially linked to this first major cup in the history of "La Roja", because he was not selected for the semi-final and final match in which he defeated the Soviet Union (2-1) at the Bernabeu.

He also played in two World Cups (1962 and 1966).

His nephews Paco Llorente and Julio Llorente, in turn, carried the Real Madrid shirt in the eighties, then his nephew Marcos Llorente began his professional career at the Real Madrid academy, where he played two seasons in the first team (2017-2019) before joining neighbors Atletico Madrid.
