Skating star Nils van der Poel, who last year won two World Cup gold medals last year, was one of the main characters at yesterday's sports gala.

He finished second in the Jerring Prize voting (after the national jumping team), and received an award for this year's achievement.

The Jerring Prize is more important than the jury

However, he was not present at the gala, as he is currently in Germany to charge the Olympics.

But the morning after the sports gala, at a digital press conference, he talked about the feelings around the gala.

And there it was clear that the final place in the Jerring Prize weighed much heavier than the prize he actually won.

- It's super fun that I have managed to get a lot of Swedes to get involved in me getting an award, I think that is super nice.

Then, what do some uncles and ladies on a jury think if I'm better at skating than Sarah Sjöström is at swimming with an injury, it's like this ...

- I could not care less.

But it's fun to have an evening to pay attention to the sport, of course.

And the people's involvement is super fun, but awards are not something I'm so interested in.
