The 1st round continues this Tuesday at the Australian Open.

And several Tricolores will very quickly want to forget this day.

This is particularly the case of Océane Dodin.

The 85th World has indeed let out a part that she seemed to control.

Despite three match points, she lost to the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (64th) 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

At 25, Dodin was participating in her fifth Australian Major where she never passed the second round, reached in 2015 and 2017.

The blow is also hard for Caroline Garcia, 70th in the world.

The player was eliminated by an opponent from qualifying.

The American Hailey Baptiste, 165th in the world, was able to turn a situation clearly in favor of the Frenchwoman to win 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.

Garcia lets the game slip away

Garcia led 6-4, 4-2 and had three balls to widen the gap to 5-2.

But instead of folding the game, she let Baptiste equalize at 5-5.

In the tie-break, the American broke away 6-0 and, despite an early comeback from Garcia, she managed to score the last point to come back to a set all.

The decisive set immediately turned in favor of Baptiste who led 4-0 and did not let himself be caught, benefiting from a big forehand foul in the net from Garcia on his second match point .

It was also not a party in Melbourne for Hugo Gaston.

The 67th in the world, who remained on a convincing end to the 2021 season, was eliminated by the Australian Christopher O'Connell, 175th at the ATP and beneficiary of an invitation.

The 21-year-old Frenchman, who was participating in his second Australian Major after his elimination already in the 1st round in 2020, was beaten 7-6 (7/4), 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

But the day did not see only French defeats.

Alizé Cornet, 61st in the world, for her part qualified for the 2nd round in which she will face the Spaniard Garbine Muguruza (3rd) who on the other hand logically eliminated Clara Burel (77th).

Cornet dismissed the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (118th and qualifying) 6-3, 6-3.

For his part, Burel committed too many unforced errors to hope to beat Muguruza, finalist in Melbourne in 2020, who however needed five match points to win 6-3, 6-4.

Unfortunately, this Tuesday's program also saw a Franco-French duel take place.

During this one, Richard Gasquet, 81st in the world, beat Ugo Humbert (40th) 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/3), 6-3.

The 35-year-old Biterrois will face the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (57th) in the next round.
