Serbian world setter Novak Djokovic was stopped by border police at Melbourne Airport and had his visa revoked because he lacked the right certificate to enter the country.

Djokovic is not vaccinated and, according to Australian authorities, lacked a valid medical exemption.

The tennis star appealed the decision - and was right.

But a few days later, after all, Djokovic was expelled at the request of Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.

The mentioned tangle has dominated the coverage of the Australian Open so far.

The Australian Tennis Association believes there are things to learn from the event.

"We see that the recent events have been a huge distraction for everyone and we deeply regret the impact that all this has had on the players," the association wrote in a statement.

"There are always lessons to be learned and we will review all aspects of our preparation and implementation."
