In total, sports now receive SEK 120 million, compared with the previous SEK 80 million that was distributed to support sports activities that have suffered financial losses as a result of the pandemic.

The support for sports is part of the extra amending budget that the government presented on Monday and applies to the first quarter of 2022.

The money is intended to compensate for the losses that the new restrictions entail.

But the support is far too low, according to RF.

The union demands an additional SEK 300 million in compensation support for the period January to March.

- The sports movement is now once again hit hard by the restrictions and must be compensated.

The government's announcement today that the sports movement will be given 40 million in compensation support is not enough, says RF's chairman Björn Eriksson in a press release.

Important with money for children's and youth sports

If the pandemic restrictions are extended, RF expects that the economic impact will land at around SEK 700 million during the first quarter of the year.

- It is important that the support of SEK 400 million that the sports movement has been promised for the restart for 2022 must also go to the restart of children and youth sports and not be forced to be used to save elite activities and compensation for major events, says Björn Eriksson.

SEK 190 million is also allocated to the e-health authority, which is responsible for handling vaccination certificates.

The budget also proposes extended event support, which can be paid out at canceled events due to restrictions.

This type of support requires the approval of the European Commission.
