27-year-old parachutist Philip Jönsson from Mariestad took Sweden's only gold at the Paralympics in Tokyo.

He also broke a new Paralympic record in the final in air rifle.

During the Sports Gala on Monday night, he also received this year's Sports Mirror Award from SVT Sports's Mats Nyström.

"Feels incredibly big"

And he did it with great joy.

- It feels incredibly big and glorious.

I was very shocked when the news came.

It was more than I dared to dream about, says Philip Jönsson to SVT Sport.

He sees the award as very valuable for parade sports.

- It's fun that parade sports are appreciated, and we parachutists and the whole world, says Philip Jönsson.

The motivation for the price is:

"Philip Jönsson, who won Sweden's only gold in the Paralympics, receives the Sportspegel Prize.

Philip has a rare disease, which can shorten his life, but neither the disease nor the challenges of the pandemic stopped him.

Philip Jönsson went to Tokyo, set a Paralympic record in air rifle and won.

He is an inspiring role model who shows that it is possible to perform at the highest level despite tough circumstances. ”
