While Nabil Fekir had just equalized at 1-1 for Betis on a direct corner (39th) four minutes after the opener from Papu Gomez (35th), Sevilla FC midfielder Joan Jordan was hit in the head by a plastic bar thrown from the stands.

The referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea decided to interrupt the meeting for long minutes, before stopping it definitively.

Jordan suffers a traumatic brain injury

Joan Jordan received treatment on the lawn, but was able to get up without worry and did not appear to be seriously affected.

However, he should miss the resumption of the meeting on Sunday, because the report of the judge of the competitions states that he will have to remain under observation for 24 hours.

On Sunday, the midfielder was evacuated to a hospital by ambulance, as a precaution, and was diagnosed with head trauma.

In 2007, the Andalusian derby had already been stopped after a bottle hit the head of Sevilla FC coach Juande Ramos, leaving him unconscious.

The rest of the game was played days later at the Alfonso Perez stadium in Getafe, south of Madrid.
