After the positive corona test by backcourt player Julius Kühn, Hendrik Wagner moved up to the German handball team at the European Championship.

The 24-year-old from the second division club Eulen Ludwigshafen is expected on Sunday afternoon with the team in Bratislava, as DHB sports director Axel Kromer said on Sunday morning.

"He will join the team to expand our options," Kromer said.

In the second preliminary round game of the DHB selection on Sunday evening Sunday (6 p.m. / in the FAZ live ticker for the handball championship and in the ARD) against Austria Wagner is not yet used.

Kühn, on the other hand, should leave the team hotel in the Slovakian capital this Sunday and move to quarantine accommodation.

The 28-year-old had tested positive for Corona on Saturday and will therefore only be able to play again in a possible main round of the European Championship.

"I hope that I can return to the team as soon as possible and continue the tournament," said Kühn on Sunday.

According to the association, Kühn, who had been vaccinated three times against the corona virus, was initially symptom-free, and the rapid tests then carried out on all national players were negative.

In the course of Sunday, the entire German delegation will also undergo another PCR test.

Instead of Kühn, the right winger Lukas Zerbe, who was not included in the first round match against Belarus (33:29), is in the 16-man squad for the game against Austria, as the DHB also announced.
