The 24th Winter Olympic Games will kick off in Beijing on February 4, 2022.

The Sports Department of Chinanews.com has launched a series of column "Hundred Questions about the Winter Olympics", which aims to popularize the knowledge of the Winter Olympics, answer hot questions, share interesting stories of ice and snow, and help everyone have a better viewing experience at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The 82nd Winter Olympics Questions | What are the differences between the three ski jumping events at the Winter Olympics?

Ski jumping personal jump, freestyle ski jump, snowboard jump... The three ski jumping events in the Winter Olympics are a bit confusing.

What is the difference between them, and how can they be better differentiated for those unfamiliar with these projects?

First of all, from the point of view of the competition, the snowboard big jump and the freestyle ski big jump are all about action.

Athletes start from the starting area, slide to the ski slope in the jumping area and fly out, and then do somersaults, grab boards and other actions.

The ski jumping competition is about distance and aerial posture. The athlete slides down to the take-off board at the end of the platform at high speed, jumps into the air, and the body and the board fly a certain distance in a V shape and then land.

From the competition equipment, the three platform projects can also be well distinguished.

Snowboard jumpers wear snowboards, freestyle ski jumpers and ski jumpers are both double boards, and freestyle ski jumpers have shorter skis and mostly hold snow poles.

In addition, snowboarders and ski jumpers wear regular ski suits with tops and trousers; ski jumpers and Nordic biathletes wear one-piece suits made of synthetic fibers.

In the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics, the snowboard ski jump and the freestyle ski jump will be performed at the Shougang Ski Jump, and the ski jump will be performed at the National Ski Jumping Center.

There are also certain differences in the competition venues. The Shougang Ski Jumping Platform has only one track, while the National Ski Jumping Center has two tracks, one high and one low, with a large disc at the top and bottom.

The large disc at the top is the starting area and also provides a unique perspective for the spectator to see the starting state of the athlete from behind without disturbing the athlete.

The large disc at the bottom connects the two tracks and is the stopping area after the athlete has landed.
