Snowboard Olympic champion Patrizia Kummer is already this week on an uncertain journey to the Olympic Games in Beijing, which will begin on February 4th.

Because the 34-year-old gold medalist from Sochi is unvaccinated and wants to stay, she has to go into a 21-day quarantine in China.

"After my personal decision not to be vaccinated, the quarantine is the logical consequence," Kummer is quoted in a message from the Swiss Ski Association.

She respects the regulations of the authorities and the IOC, "now I want to concentrate completely on my sporting goals in Beijing".

However, it is not even clear yet whether Kummer will be awarded one of the four possible starting places in the parallel giant slalom by the Swiss Association.

She has met the norm, but according to Swiss Ski the selection process will not start for two weeks.

The parallel giant slalom will be held in Beijing on February 8th.

Due to her quarantine, Kummer missed the World Cup competitions in Bad Gastein (January 11th / 12th) and Simonhöhe (January 14th / 15th / both Austria)
