Kohei Uchimura, who won the Olympic gymnastics for the second consecutive time in the individual all-around, has decided to retire from active duty, according to interviews with the people concerned.

Uchimura is 33 years old from Nagasaki prefecture.

With his excellent aerial sensation and overwhelming amount of practice, he was selected as the representative of the Beijing Olympics at the age of 19 and won a silver medal overall.

Since then, he has grown to be the best all-rounder in the world, with accurate landing and beautifully performing difficult techniques in all six events.

In the individual all-around, he has won the gold medal for the second consecutive tournament since the London Olympics, and won the world championship for the sixth consecutive time, leaving an overwhelming record.

The group also contributed to winning the gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics as a major pillar of Japan.

After that, considering the pain in the shoulders and the burden on the body, he was selected as the representative of the Tokyo Olympics by focusing on the horizontal bar for each event instead of the all-around.

At the Tokyo Olympics, where he participated in four consecutive tournaments, he fell in the horizontal bar qualifying and did not win a gold medal.

At the World Championships held in my hometown of Kitakyushu last October, I was 6th in the horizontal bar by event.
