The French Gaël Monfils won his first trophy for almost two years in Adelaide (Australia) at the expense of the Russian Karen Khachanov (29th) in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 Sunday January 9, eight days before the Open d 'Australia (January 17-30).

Monfils, 35 years old and 21st in the world, had not won a title since the Rotterdam tournament (Netherlands) in February 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the 11th title in the career of the French No.1.

When the circuit resumed under coronavirus, he won only three matches between September 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics last summer, despite his association in early 2021 with Günter Bresnik, the former coach of Dominic Thiem in particular.
