• In the midst of losing spiral

    ,

OL managed to grab a point against PSG this Sunday (1-1).

  • The Lyonnais, who quickly opened the scoring by Lucas Paqueta (1-0, 8th), could even have aimed better by relying on a finally solid defense and quality blocks.

  • PSG, which pushed a lot in the second period, owes its salvation to an equalization of its astonishing evening joker, Thilo Kehrer (1-1, 76th).

At Parc OL,

What was more improbable this Sunday evening?

A finally coherent performance of a 13th OL in Ligue 1 very close to inflicting on PSG its second defeat of the season in the league (1-1)?

Or the first goal in two years of the much maligned Thilo Kehrer, seven minutes after coming into play?

As you will have understood, even in an atmosphere of almost closed doors, this shock turned out to be rich in surprises.

The start of a small PSG

Unbeaten for three months in Ligue 1, Paris escaped him narrowly at Parc OL. As usual, what is more in the combined absence of Leo Messi and Neymar, the light has long seemed to be able to come only from Kylian Mbappé. Always moving and sharp, it almost continued his crazy streak (seven goals in his three previous games), but he stumbled twice on the left post of Anthony Lopes, after a beautiful curled shot (1- 0, 42nd) and a marvelous eccentric free kick (1-1, 83rd).

With a midfielder inconsistent as possible (Paredes-Herrera-Verratti-Wijnaldum), and a Colin Dagba who clearly drowned for his second start of the season in L1, this Paris cannot manage to frighten Europe from football.

But we know that nothing really matters for this team before February 15 and this shock to go XXL in the Champions League against Real Madrid.

And if even Thilo Kehrer can turn into a savior (1-1, 76th), everything can definitely be considered.

OL know how to transform into a counter team

35% possession of the ball (31.6% in the end) and half a dozen well-felt counter-attacks….

The 5,000 spectators at Parc OL did not expect such a program in the first period on Sunday.

But they also couldn't imagine seeing their side lead 1-0 with such a solid face around the center-back triplet Lukeba-Boateng-Da Silva.

Like a stunning intervention by the 19-year-old Lyon defender to avoid a ready-made goal from Mauro Icardi (55th), the band at Peter Bosz showed that with such fighting spirit and quality of blocks, it was not in its place in the league.

A Guimaraes-Paqueta tandem more “joga bonito” than ever

The recruitment of his compatriots Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta is clearly the masterpiece of Juninho when taking stock of his sports director's record for two and a half years.

What more symbolic illustration just after the departure of “Juni” than this first period during which they never ceased to delight with their technical accuracy and their vista.

The connection between the two friends was obvious in the 8th minute of play. The bright opening of Bruno G. (on his bad foot) was perfectly exploited by Lucas Paqueta, author of a recovery out of reach of Keylor Navas ( 1-0).

But the momentum regained with his Brazilians but also an inspired Houssem Aouar does not prevent OL from retaining its stubborn demons from the last quarter of an hour of play.
