After the heavy start to the season, Calle Halfvarsson showed that he wanted to fight for the last Olympic place on the Tour de Ski.

The 32-year-old delivered, among other things, a sixth place in the 15-kilometer mass start after a strong finish and followed it up by finishing fifth in the sprint the next day.

Something that contributed to him being tenth in the overall summary.

- I came to the tour to do some races that are enough for an Olympic venue and I think I have done that now.

To go from where I was before the tour to being here in a top ten position, I'm quite happy with that.

It actually feels quite incredible that I stand here as tenth in total, Halfvarsson told SVT Sport after the final stage.

The ski association and SOK also seem to agree with Halfvarsson that it is enough, because today he was presented as the last skier in the Olympic team.

"Exceptionally good team player"

- I hope to be able to do my best Olympics so far in Beijing.

Now I look forward to some time at home with recharging before Beijing, says Calle Halfvarsson in a statement.

This will be Calle Halfvarsson's third Olympic championship with a fourth place in the sprint relay four years ago as the best place.

He also brings with him Charlotte Kalla who got the last place on the women's side.

- Both Charlotte and Calle have, despite great pressure to deliver results, had a clearly rising form curve and both have experience that is important in a championship, especially in a relatively young team.

Both are also exceptionally good team players, something that means a lot in an Olympic team, says national team manager Anders Byström.
