Paul Breitner is relieved about the reconciliation with Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß. “The fact that I occasionally approached you and FC Bayern publicly was because both you and the club were always important to me - and still are today. I criticized some decisions because I was the only one who dared to oppose you. I wanted to draw attention to things for the good of our FC Bayern. If I hadn't cared, I wouldn't have even looked into it, ”wrote the former national soccer player in a letter to Hoeneß on the occasion of his 70th birthday on Wednesday.

“Dear Uli, I am glad that we both came to our senses and woke up: It would have been bad if we could not still enjoy our journey together. For your birthday, I wish you a brilliant idea for your personal wish that you, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I tear something big together again, ”the 70-year-old Breitner continued.

Hoeneß and Breitner had broken up in the meantime - on the occasion of the death of Gerd Müller (75) last year, the buddies from early kicker years at Bayern and the national team reconciled. "We hit it off right away because, despite fundamentally different interests and sometimes opposing views on key values such as will, commitment and diligence, we are like identical twins," said Breitner, recalling the common teenage times. "Our magnet was mutual respect: we knew that we could rely 100 percent on each other, on the pitch as in life."

Breitner and Hoeneß have known each other for more than 55 years and were once "inseparable", as Breitner thinks.

The break occurred in 2018 after Breitner sharply criticized Bayern about the then President Hoeneß.

Hoeneß had "shaped FC Bayern like only Gerd Müller with his goals", the 1974 world champion paid tribute to his former teammate and boss.

He closes his very personal lines with: "Your Paul."

In an interview with the Sport Informations Dienst, Hoeneß also looks back in a conciliatory manner.

“The big conflicts were with Christoph Daum, Willi Lemke and most recently with Paul (Breitner).

They have all been cleared out, I'm very happy about that.

Also with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge - that wasn't a big problem, but as long as we worked together here, there was one or two friction.

Everything is fine there. "
