Fan arrested for racist abuse at City match

Brentford club said on Sunday that police had arrested one of its fans for allegedly directing racist and homophobic insults to a rival player during the team's match against its guest Manchester City in the English Premier League last Wednesday.

Brentford did not reveal any details about the incident, but confirmed that he had arrested this fan and banned him from attending his matches until the investigations were completed.

"We are aware of the incident during Wednesday night's match where a Brentford fan was arrested for allegedly abusing a Manchester City player using racist and homophobic language. It is now up to the police," Brentford said in a statement.

"This individual is currently prohibited from attending any Brentford matches until the conclusion of the police investigation and may also be subject to sanctions by the club depending on the results of the investigation," the statement read.

Newly promoted Brentford to the Premier League lost 1-0 to champions and leaders City, to stop its score at 20 points from 18 games, while it occupies 14th place among the twenty teams in the championship.

Brentford will meet Aston Villa later on Sunday.
