It looked so good for Columbus, where Adam Boqvist made it 2-0 and Gustav Nyquist 3-0 (his 600th NHL game), when Alexandre Texier withdrew into the offensive zone after a quick turnaround and via Carolinabacken Ian Cole did 4-0 after half the match.

However, it was no consolation goal when Steven Lorentz guided Eric Robinson's excellent pass for 4-1 just 30 seconds later.

That was the beginning of the mighty turn.

Carolina was caught up when Nino Niederreiter took advantage of a strange edge bounce and banked in 4-4 in the middle of the third period.

Columbus goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikins looked in a completely different direction and shook his head as he knelt after the goal.

Decided in 16 seconds

- I do not believe my eyes, said the commentator in Viaplay's broadcast.

Carolina did not rest on its laurels, but only 16 seconds later it was 5-4 behind Merzlikins (was replaced in the third period when Danil Tarasov injured himself and had to retire).

He was sidelined and Ethan Bear's back shot was looking for a goal.

Carolina was able to increase to 7-4 and Columbus was cracked.

In the third period, Columbus only got two shots on goal, where the former Frölunda goalkeeper Frederik Andersen, back after the covid protocol, was replaced at a 3-0 disadvantage instead of Antti Raanta who let in these goals on nine shots.

At 6-4, goalkeeper Merzlikins was picked out and Columbus made a desperate attempt to get something.

Instead, Andrei Svechikov made it 7-4 in an empty net.

The crowd aired their displeasure at each goal when Carolina scored five just in the final period.
