Charlotte Kalla has not made it to the track this year and has not yet secured a place in Sweden's Olympic squad.

Kalla was not selected for the World Cup competitions in Davos earlier in December, but instead trained at home.

- We believe that a restart at home can make her totally stronger in the track, said Magnus Ingesson, women's coach in the Swedish cross-country team, then.

Now Kalla is back in the squad and will run the Tour de Ski which starts today.

And the competitions will be decisive for whether she goes to Beijing in February.

"Great athletes have that ability"

Despite the heavy start, Charlotte Kalla has previously shown that she can bounce back.

An example is 2016 where she was far behind in the premiere in Ruka and was powerless in the track.

She also stood over the World Cup in Lillehammer and it turned out that she suffered from heart fibrillation.

The same season she won a medal in the World Cup.

- Great athletes have that ability.

It's one thing to just win and win.

But to be able to win and then have a year when things go worse and be able to analyze the situation, make changes and come back even stronger, I think Charlotte Kalla has done this several times, says SVT's expert Mathias Fredriksson.

- One thinks that "now she is finished, this is no longer possible" and then she comes back stronger and better than ever.

I think that symbolizes Charlotte Kalla very well.

Can take the tenth Olympic medal

The question is whether she can once again find her way back to the required form.

- She can certainly do that.

This time it is more difficult, I think, but she definitely has the opportunity to take a place in the Olympic squad, says Fredriksson.

Charlotte Kalla is already Sweden's foremost female Olympian ever with her nine medals.

And according to Fredriksson, there is still a chance to add a medal to the collection.

- Individually no, unless it is something extremely good or something very strange.

However, her chance is to get a tenth Olympic medal in the relay team, where she still has the opportunity to take a place.

There, I am pretty sure that Sweden will take a medal, he says.
