The cyclist Ahmed Al-Mansoori, from the Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid team, won the title of the “Fifty Years of the Desert” race for the Peace Cycling Championship yesterday, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and organized by His Highness’s office For Procurement and Finance, for the sixth year in a row.

The race started from the “Expo Lake” area, and extended for a distance of 39 km in the heart of the Al Marmoom Reserve in the Seih Al Salam area, with the participation of 116 Emirati cyclists.

The cyclist, Saif Mayouf Al Kaabi from the Emirates team, came in second place, followed by Jaber Al Mansouri from the Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid team, while Youssef Mirza, the champion of the first trial last year, came in fourth place.

In the "amateur" race, Majid Abdul Rahim from the Trek M7 team won the second place, Yasser Jumaa from the Dubai Police team and Nayef Al Marzouki from the Al Wathba team won the third place.

The race was witnessed by the Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the championship, Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, the Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, Saeed Hareb, and members of the organizing committee of the championship.

The supervisor of the Al Wathba Cycling Team, Suleiman Al Hammadi, said that the nature of desert races requires special endurance capabilities, and the nature of riders with great endurance and high physical fitness, given the nature of the race tracks.

He added in a press statement that "such races depend in their results primarily on the individual work of the riders, and not like road races, whose results are decided by the collective work of one team riders."

He pointed out that "the 50th Desert Race is one of the most difficult races, given the nature of the tracks through which the riders pass."

For his part, the race champion Ahmed Al-Mansoori expressed his happiness with his achievement despite the difficulties he faced throughout the race, stressing that determination and challenge were in the eyes of everyone to reach the finish line in the first place.
