"Seventy" crossed the Atlantic with a "barrel"... and is preparing to cross the ocean again with a "rowing boat"

A 75-year-old Frenchman who crossed the Atlantic with a barrel in 2019, announced that he would return to the ball, but this time with a rowing boat, setting off on Wednesday from Sagres in the southwest of Portugal, in an effort to become the oldest person to achieve this feat.

Jean-Jacques Savan told (AFP) that he is heading Friday by car from his place of residence in the Arcachon basin near the city of Bordeaux in southwestern France, where he lives, to the Portuguese city of Sagres, where he is expected to arrive on Sunday.

He added that his boat will be placed in the water on Monday, to be finalized on Tuesday, and then set off on its journey Wednesday, expecting that the weather conditions will be favorable.

Jean-Jacques Savin expects his Audacieux ("bold") crossing to take about 100 days, the arrival point being the French Antilles and, if possible, Martinique, where his earlier finish line was.

The former soldier who wants to defy aging spent more than four months in 2019 in a barrel-shaped boat three meters long and two meters in diameter and 10 centimeters across, with which he crossed the Atlantic Ocean alone, on a journey during which he was thrown by winds and currents.

This time, his boat (orange like a "barrel") is eight meters long, and one meter and 70 centimeters wide.

Savan will celebrate his 75th birthday on January 14th.
