The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has now updated the game schedule for the nations' training matches ahead of the relegation to the JVM.

The countries were supposed to play at least two training matches each, but due to the prevailing covid-19 situation in Canada, it has been decided to play only one match.

"With the interest in the health and safety of all participants, and as a result of in-depth discussions between the Canadian Hockey Federation, the International Hockey Federation and local organizers, and the medical advisors, we have decided to redo the program," said Scott Smith, President for the Canadian Hockey Federation, in a press release.

Sweden only repairs against Austria

The new game schedule means that Sweden's match against Canada is canceled.

The junior crowns will only play training matches against Austria and thus miss the chance to regroup against tougher opposition.

Although the growing spread of infection in Canada has caused concern, the championship should not be in danger.

- We have not received any indications that the championship will be in danger.

These measures have been taken more to ensure and to be able to hold the actual championship.

They are conducting more tests, to be on the safe side, said Olof Östblom, competition manager at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, to SVT Sport yesterday.

The meeting with Austria will be played the night before Christmas Eve, at 03.00.
