Doubts surround the fate of Cameroon hosting the upcoming 2022 African Cup of Nations, after the President of the Confederation of African Football (C) Patrice Motsepe was unable to issue a clear statement on the matter.

"We will talk tomorrow and tell you what's new," Motsebe told reporters upon his arrival at Nsimalen International Airport in Cameroon.

Motsepe is visiting Cameroon to discuss the fate of the postponed tournament with the football authorities in the country and with Cameroonian President Paul Biya, which is scheduled to be held from January 9 to February 6.

Concerns about the spread of the Corona virus in several regions of Cameroon - especially the new mutant Omicron - led to proposals to postpone the tournament again.

But several former stars of Cameroonian football - led by the current president of the Football Association there Samuel Eto'o - want the tournament to be held as scheduled.

The final date of the African Nations Cup contrasts with the start of the Club World Cup, which is scheduled to start on the third of next February.

The African champion Al-Ahly Club of Egypt complained about the possibility of the absence of 10 of its players due to joining the national teams of their countries, which will reduce the team's chances in the tournament that will be held in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
