The 26-year-old triumphed in Courchevel, France, on Tuesday with a whopping 0.86 seconds ahead of second-placed Swede Sara Hector.
Third place went to Swiss Michelle Gisin (+ 1.08 seconds) ahead of Slovak overall World Cup winner Petra Vlhova (+ 1.44 seconds).
“It's a good day,” Shiffrin said after the first run.
She later followed up with a second splendid run and thus celebrated the 72nd World Cup victory of her career.
She is still missing ten successes until her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who resigned in 2019 and leads the all-time best list of women with 82 victories.
There are still 14 to the Swede Ingemar Stenmark, who is enthroned above all.
She now has 14 victories in the giant slalom - like the German ex-top driver and Olympic champion Viktoria Rebensburg.
"Most notably"
Shiffrin had already won the first giant slalom of this winter in Sölden in October.
Courchevel should gradually become one of her all-time favorite stations in the World Cup.
For the fourth time she won a giant slalom in the French Alps.
Last season she celebrated her first victory there after her father's accidental death and shed bitter tears.
This is probably one of the reasons why Shiffrin sees the races there as "very special".
The German starters remained without points on Tuesday.
Marlene Schmotz missed the final of the top 30 as 34th, Jessica Hilzinger was eliminated.
On Wednesday, the giant slalom of Killington (USA), which was canceled at the end of November due to wind, will be made up in Courchevel.
