Sjöström swam in the penultimate heat.

The 28-year-old opened at 25:00 after 50 meters and then swam very controlled during the finish.

With his 52:21, Sjöström was second fastest Only Siobhan Haughey, who yesterday won World Cup gold and broke Sjöström's world record of 200 freestyle, was faster and the only swimmer in 52 seconds.

- It felt quite relaxed the first 50. But I'm a little tough, I slept maybe half an hour last night.

But it does not matter, it does not usually affect my performance so much.

- I usually need a real warm-up for me to get started so this was my warm-up for the day, says Sjöström to SVT Sport.

Michelle Coleman is also on to tonight's semifinal in the 100 freestyle.

She had 53.41 and is ahead with ninth time.

- It felt pretty calm.

Of course I'm tired but I saw that the girls before were quite passive so I just tried to keep up with my race, so I'm pretty happy, says Michelle Coleman.

- Tonight will be completely different times, it feels like people were holding back this morning.

Tonight it is really important to drive "all out" from the beginning.

But I hope it will be full speed before that, given our team race.

Sjöström believes that a time around it this morning should be enough for the final advancement of 100 meters free.

- In the evening I swim at the same time but in a simpler way it does not take as much energy.

It's like the body sleeps before 12 o'clock, I have a long starting distance.

What I have learned is that I just swim better and better, says Sjöström.

Final-ready team

Sweden took bronze in the team race in the 4x100 meter freestyle, the first Swedish team race medal in a short track world championship in 13 years.

During the morning, a new final swim was secured in the team race in the 4x50 meter medley.

Sweden advanced with fifth time, 1:45:63, to the final.

The fastest in the experiment was the USA.

In the Swedish team during the morning, Hanna Rosvall, Emelie Fast, Louise Hansson and Michelle Coleman swam.

-Great, the goal was to take us to the final so it was a good start really, says Michelle Coleman who swam the freestyle distance.

17-year-old Emelie Fast swam the breaststroke distance and recorded 29.71 seconds.

This morning's team race attempt was also Fast's World Cup debut.

- Great, it (time) is among the fastest I have done so I am very happy.

This was my World Cup debut, so it was great fun to do it in a team race with the girls.

They feel safe and it is very fun with team racing.
