He said that no player deserves more than 100,000 dirhams as a monthly salary

Al Shamsi: The rise in players' salaries is behind the decline of our teams and teams

  • Salim Al Shamsi: "The salary according to official contracts should not exceed 200,000 dirhams per month, but there are players who earn between 300,000 and 400,000 dirhams, and sometimes it reaches 500,000 dirhams per month."

The head of the former Players Status and Transfers Committee in the Football Association, Dr. Salim Al Shamsi, called for a review of the salary ceiling for players in the ADNOC Professional Football League, against the background of the decline in the results of clubs and national teams, saying that “there is currently no player in the league who deserves these high salaries, Which exceeds 100,000 dirhams per month for some players.”

Al-Shamsi stressed to "Emirates Today" that "excessive salaries spoiled the players, and caused a decline in the levels of our teams and teams during their foreign participation in the recent period, the last of which was the disappointing exit of the team from the Arab Cup."

He said, "The monthly salary of a professional player in general in the league should remain between 30 thousand and 100 thousand dirhams, and if an Olympic team player is between 60 thousand and 100 thousand dirhams, and a first-team player is between 80 thousand and 100 thousand dirhams," noting that the players' salaries increased On the logical level, this caused a decline in the Asian and world rankings of clubs and national teams.

Al-Shamsi was head of the previous players’ status and transfers committee, which ensured that the salary ceiling currently in force, but he stressed that there are clubs that violate it.

He said, "The salary according to official contracts should not exceed 200,000 dirhams per month, but there are players who earn between 300,000 and 400,000 dirhams, and sometimes it reaches 500,000 dirhams per month outside official contracts, so why is this?"

He pointed out that players with high salaries are now lacking motivation and have no real ambition with their clubs and national teams.

He stressed that "material is a double-edged sword. There is a player, the more material he gives, the more he gives, and another player is the exact opposite."

The former Football Association set four categories for the salary ceiling, so that the upper limit for the first category in one season does not exceed 2.8 million dirhams, the second 1.8 million dirhams, the third 1.2 million dirhams, and the fourth 600 thousand dirhams.

Al Shamsi said that "the Football Association and the Professional League are not negligent, but some clubs are the reason behind the violation of the financial system and salaries."

He continued, "Without the commitment of clubs, it is difficult to control this ceiling," and stressed the need to review their affairs in this regard.

Al Shamsi explained, "The players' salary ceiling was based on the player's status and classification based on his level, for example, if he is a first-team player, he is classified by the number of his participation with the national team through matches, as well as an Olympic team player and a first-class player, but there are some clubs that rejected this matter."
